Updated yesterday

We’re really sorry that you’re running into this issue. 🙏

If Speak isn’t picking up your voice, please try the steps below.

These have helped many other users resolve similar problems.

🛠 Basic Troubleshooting

  1. Delete and reinstall the Speak app (make sure it’s the latest version).

  2. Clear cache (Speak app → Profile → Settings → Clear Cache)

  3. Restart your device.

  4. Check your device’s OS version and make sure it’s up to date.

  5. Try toggling between Wi-Fi ↔️ mobile data to see if the issue persists

🔎 Still not working after those steps?

If voice recognition isn’t working for full sentences even after basic troubleshooting, please check whether your microphone permissions are fully enabled.

🍎 Are you an iOS (iPhone) user?

1. Activate Microphone Access:

  • Open the 'Settings' app on your iPhone.

  • Scroll down to find the list of installed apps and select 'Speak.'

  • Ensure that the toggle next to 'Microphone' is switched on.
This grants the Speak app permission to access your iPhone's microphone, which is crucial for voice recognition features.

2. Verify Content & Privacy Settings:

  • Go back to the main 'Settings' menu and tap on 'Screen Time.'

  • Navigate to 'Content & Privacy Restrictions.' If these restrictions are enabled, you'll need to enter your Screen Time passcode.

  • Within 'Content & Privacy Restrictions,' go to 'Allowed Apps.'

  • Make sure that both 'Microphone' and 'Speech Recognition' are permitted.
This ensures that no system-wide settings are blocking the Speak app from utilizing voice recognition capabilities.

🤖 Are you an Android user?

1. Close the Application:

  • Ensure the app in question is completely shut down. Remove it from recent applications to ensure it's not running in the background.

2. Adjust Microphone Permissions:

  • Open your device's 'Settings' and navigate to 'Applications' or 'Apps & notifications' depending on your device.

  • Find and select 'Speaks' or the relevant app from the list.

  • Go to 'Permissions' > 'Microphone' and set the permission to 'Deny.' This step is usually for troubleshooting or privacy reasons.

3. Re-enable Microphone Access:

  • To restore microphone functionality, repeat the steps above but switch the microphone permission back to 'Allow.'

4. Samsung Device Users - Disable Bixby:

  • If you're using a Samsung device and encountering issues, consider disabling Bixby Voice to prevent conflicts.

  • Navigate to 'Bixby' from your home screen or apps drawer, then tap on 'Settings.' Find 'Bixby Voice' and toggle it to 'OFF.'
