Immersive Roleplay is a new type of free-form conversation lesson where you speak with a character in a dynamic, immersive setting, with on-demand hints and corrections that make the interaction feel like a real conversation.
This experience lives in the revamped Free Talk tab alongside the legacy Free Talk experience (Chat mode).

💬 Revamped Free Talk tab: Say goodbye to text-only cards; lessons are now feature-rich, scenario-based visuals that bring roleplay to life.
🧑🎤 Immersive Mode: New lesson format with 3D-style animated characters and real-time speaking practice.
🎭 Character selection in “Create Your Own”: Choose which character you want to talk to, and the system will generate a matching scene and outfit. When you specify a scenario (e.g., “ordering at an Italian restaurant”), we automatically create a relevant background and dress the character appropriately for that context.
🎙 Live voice input & low-latency output: Character responses now stream in sync with audio for a more natural, low-latency feel. On the user side, speech is transcribed in real time with a pulsing mic ring and subtle post-utterance auto-corrections.
✋ Interrupt anytime: Tap or speak anytime to cut in like a real conversation. No more waiting for your turn.

What’s the difference between Immersive Mode vs Chat Mode?
Immersive Mode is the new voice‑first roleplay experience that streams each conversation in real-time and lets you cut in naturally while providing in‑flow hints and corrections.
Chat Mode is the traditional roleplay experience where each conversations are strictly turn-based
How do I switch to Chat Mode?
You can switch between Immersive and Chat mode on the pre-lesson screen. This is available for all Free Talk lessons
Is Immersive Mode being offered in Course lessons?
Phase 1 of Immersive Roleplay focuses on experience in the Free Talk Tab only. Course integration may follow in later stages.
Who are the new characters in Free Talk and Immersive Mode?
Each immersive lesson features a themed character and scene, designed to match the roleplay context. We have 3 characters for now with more coming soon!
Can I choose my character?
Yes! Character selection is supported in “Create your own” mode
Do characters or backgrounds change per lesson?
Yes, background and character vary by lesson to match the scenario.
Is the Immersive Mode hands-free?
Not yet. We’re working on adding this capability soon! Phase 1 of Immersive Roleplay will still require you to tap to send the sentence.
How do I turn translations on or off?
Tap Translate on a turn to reveal it, or enable "Always show translations" in Settings. When enabled, translations stream automatically after agent output completes.
Do Corrections affect my XP?
Corrections are formative. They are meant for review and let you retry the latest turn. They do not affect earned XP per lesson
Can I retry a response?
Yes. Use Retry from the Corrections component. It returns you to that turn and opens listening automatically.
Why can't I replay or translate audio on some turns?
If you interrupt the AI tutor mid‑speech, Replay Audio and Translation are disabled for that turn to avoid mismatches.
